The words ‘retail therapy’ seem to work wonders on the mind of a woman. It conjures up images of clothing, shoes, bags, accessories, and dulls the mind of even the biggest worry. In 1996 a phenomenon known as ‘online shopping’ was started, and has become increasingly popular over the years. It’s retail therapy at the click of a mouse! In this article we explore the pro’s and con’s of online shopping, so that you can make an informed decision as to whether it’s for you or not. Online shopping has many advantages, including: 1. Time – it saves you the hassle of getting into your car and driving to the shops, not to mention fuel consumption! 2. Price comparisons – there are many search engines dedicated to finding you the cheapest deal, including shipping charges. 3. Larger inventory – with online shopping you are spoilt for choice, you can choose from local or international labels as well as different styles and colours. 4. 24/7 – Online stores are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This enables you to shop at your leisure after a hard days work or once the kids are asleep! 5. No queues! There are a few disadvantages to online shopping, but they can be avoided if you know what to look out for. The disadvantages include: 1. Shipping costs – this is an additional expense, so ensure that the company’s shipping charges are not exorbitant. 2. Try before you buy – with online shopping you dont get to inspect the product or try the clothing on before you buy it. 3. Defective items – with defective items, shipping costs become your problem so ensure that the company has a fair refund or return policy. 4. Fraud – this is probably the biggest concern online shoppers will have, so stick with known stores, instead of independants, and also ensure that the company lists a phone number and street address.
